Basic Workshop:
An Introduction to Assessment, Diagnosis, and Treatment Issues
An introduction to the world of problem gambling – presents a multi-dimensional approach to assessment and diagnosis of problem and pathological gambling. Learn about the scope of gambling in the United States as well as rates of prevalence among adults and youth. Introduction to tools for assessment and screening and diagnostic criteria for gambling addiction, and overview of the different types of gamblers and the patterns of behavior that characterize these types.
Presenter:
Joanna Franklin, MS, NCGC-II, is Director of Training and Network Development for Trimeridian Inc, serving states, tribes, the Navy, and the Army to provide gambling-specific treatment protocols, clinical training, and supervision toward national certification in gambling counseling. She is Co-chair of the International Gambling Counselor Certification Board, President of the Institute for Problem Gambling, and on the Board of Directors of the National Council on Problem Gambling
Advanced Workshop:
Cognitive Behavioral Approach: An Effective Tool to Identify & Deal With Distortions
This workshop provides advanced knowledge about how to understand problem/pathological gamblers utilizing a Cognitive Behavioral approach. The session will provide assessment tools to comprehensively understand the distortions the gambler has about gambling and money. Participants will learn to identify levels of distortions and the appropriate treatment intervention response. In addition, the presenter will offer information on how to complete a financial assessment with the problem gambler.
Presenter:
Isabelle Duguay, MA, Ps, LPCC, Harmonique Living LLC, Ms. Duguay has a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Moncton (1999), Moncton, Canada and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Montreal (1995), Canada. Her clinical expertise includes Addiction, Problem Gambling, Anxiety, Mood Disorders, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Motivational Enhancement, as well as short-term, goal-directed therapy. She is a Licensed Psychologist in Quebec, Canada, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois, and a Licensed Professional Certified Counselor (LPCC) in Minnesota with extensive training in the diagnosis, referral, and treatment of addictive illness, including those of alcohol/drugs and problem gambling.
Post-Conference Problem Gambling Training Workshop

National Problem Gambling Counselor Certification Exam Preparation
To become a Certified Problem Gambling Counselor (Nationally or in Washington State), treatment providers must pass the International Certification Examination for Gambling Counselor (previously National Certification Exam).
This workshop will offer a review of the outline of gambling-specific topics that are covered on the national exam and discussion of such topics as prevalence, criteria, assessment, treatment strategies, neurochemistry, psychopharmacology, and gambling and the law. Includes sample test questions offered in a pre/post format with discussion.
